Dates in Red are not inscribed on the tombstone and have either been calculated based on death date or are as a result of research on the individual.

Some birth dates, where the "Aged __ys, __ms, __ds" and death dates are clearly read, have been calculated and presented here.  In some cases the dates have been provided by family researchers. These additions are distinguished by the italic red text.  If any text, letter, or number is either illegible or uncertain, it is underlined, frequently with a question mark alongside it.  If you have any questions regarding these, or any corrections to provide, please contact WVCPA at the email address link on the Home page (hyper linked below this text box).

Two of the tombstones in this cemetery have inscribed on them the scripture passage from Revelation chapter 14, verse 13.  On the stones, commas and quotes have been omitted or have faded away long ago.  The King James translation of the verse is as follows:

And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, " Write, ' Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth:' 'Yea', saith the Spirit, ' that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.' "

The reading of this cemetery is nearly complete, and some names may be missing.  Where possible, the information contained here has been compared to earlier readings published in the "Jackson County Cemetery Inscriptions" book, published by the Jackson County Historical Society in 1981.

If you know of a name that should be included in this list, please contact WVCPA with the details.  A separate page for Mt. Moriah Church is being planned.  If you have any historic photos of the church, either inside or outside, or any historic or anecdotal information to share for posting on the web page, let us know.
