County: Jackson
USGS Quad: Ripley
Coordinates: 38.7559ºN  81.7401ºW
Maintained by: Pleasant Hill M.E. Church
Land owner: Pleasant Hill M.E. Church
Date added to WVCPA register: October 2003
Condition of cemetery**: Excellent (October 2003)
Accessibility: Easily accessible - located on a knoll overlooking the Parchment Valley and Parchment Creek above CR 15 just north of Given.  Good, solid driveway area by cemetery and church to park and turn around on. The road up to the church (CR 15-6) is very steep and the gravel sometimes loose, so take it slow and easy. This is a beautiful location, and as you can see in the photo above, particularly so in early October as the leaves are changing.

** Condition of cemetery as observed on the given date -
may not be representative of care at other times of the year
Scale: Excellent - Good - Fair - Poor - Abandoned

Comments:

Dates in Red are not inscribed on the tombstone and have either been calculated based on death date or are as a result of research on the individual.

Much of the additional background information about the individual printed within square brackets is taken from "Jackson County Cemetery Inscriptions", published by the Jackson County Historical Society in 1981.

The reading of this cemetery is nearly complete, yet some names may be missing.  Where possible, the information contained here has been compared to and supplemented by earlier readings published in the "Jackson County Cemetery Inscriptions" book. Many of the exact dates of birth and death have been generously provided by Cam & Joan Crane from their extensive vital records research in the region.

If you know of a name that should be included in this list, please contact WVCPA with the details.  A separate page for Pleasant Hill M.E. Church is posted in our Historic Church section of this website (click on the church name in the line above to go directly to the page).  If you have any historic photos of the church, either inside or outside, or any historic or anecdotal information to share for posting on the web page, let us know and we will add it to the church page.
